How come?
Sparqel belongs to me, not to investors. It doesn't need to make a profit; I build it because I enjoy it and because a good quiz platform should simply be free.
The game runs in the host's browser. The servers only pass messages along, and images sit in storage with no per-download fees. So a game costs almost nothing.
A maximum of 50 players per game and a daily image limit keep the bill small and predictable.
People who like it buy me a coffee. That pays for the servers.

Your data isn't the business model. There is no business model at all, apart from coffee. I really do like coffee.
Safe? How?
Players don't create an account or give an email address. They pick a nickname and get an anonymous ID.
The correct answers only reach phones once the question is over. In an assignment, the server checks the answers.
Security rules in the database decide who can read what, and they're tested automatically. You only see your own quizzes and reports.
The databases are in the Netherlands and Belgium.
Data from a live game is deleted afterwards, and otherwise automatically within 48 hours.
Lock the lobby, remove players, filter inappropriate names and use two-step joining for people in the room.
All connections use HTTPS, and passwords are stored encrypted by the sign-in service.
The code and the packages it uses were checked for security issues in October 2026; anything that needed fixing has been fixed.
Students don't need an account and only enter a nickname. Only the teacher sees the report and can delete it at any time.
Will it stay free?

Nobody. Players never pay and don't need an account. If you'd like to chip in, you can buy me a coffee, entirely voluntarily.
Not to get started: you can create a quiz right away. To play it live or upload your own photos, create a free account with Google or your email address. You won't lose your quiz.
As little as possible. From players only a nickname, their answers and their score. From creators with an account their name, email address and the quizzes they make. No ads, no tracking cookies and no visitor analytics. It's all in the privacy policy.
