You're in front of the room with your slides in full screen and want to play a quick quiz. You don't want to keep walking back to your laptop to click "next". With two parts of Sparqel you don't have to: you run the game from your phone, and a permanent viewer link puts the game in your presentation.
Run the game from your phone
Start the game on your laptop and click the phone icon in the top right corner. A QR code appears. Scan it with your phone and sign in with the same account. From then on, the game runs on your phone:
- One big button for the next step: start, close answers, next question, to the podium.
- You see how many players there are and how many have already answered.
- In the lobby you can lock the lobby or remove a player.
The big screen just follows along. Your phone stays on while the remote is open. If it locks anyway, the game waits until you open it again. Got a presentation clicker? That works too: the right arrow or Page Down means "next".
Your permanent viewer link
When you start a game (or during the game), click Embed in your presentation. That's where you'll find your viewer link. The link belongs to your account, not to a single game. It always shows the game you're hosting right now: the lobby with PIN and QR code, the questions with the timer, the results, the scoreboard and the podium. There are no buttons on it.
Not playing? Then the link shows a calm waiting screen. So you add it to your presentation once and use it for every quiz after that. If the link ends up somewhere it shouldn't, create a new one with a single click; the old one stops working.
PowerPoint
The simplest way works in every version:
- Put your viewer link on a button, text or image in your slide (Insert > Link).
- Click it during the slide show. The game opens in your browser; make it full screen with F11.
- Done with the quiz? Switch back to PowerPoint with Alt+Tab.
Want the game right inside the slide? You can use an add-in that shows web pages. Choose Insert > Get Add-ins and search for "web viewer". These add-ins are made by other companies and are often paid. Microsoft's own Web Viewer was retired at the end of 2024.
Canva
In your design, click Apps, choose Embed and paste your viewer link. Canva doesn't show every web page live. Only seeing a card with the link? Then click it while presenting: the game opens in your browser, which you then make full screen.
Good to know
- Sound: an embedded slide plays no music; browsers block it. In a separate browser window, click the screen once and you'll hear everything.
- Two-step joining: the pattern is deliberately left out of the viewer. Otherwise anyone with the link could join from outside the room. Turn two-step joining off if you only use the viewer.
- Which questions: all question types work, from quiz and poll to word cloud and brainstorm. Not sure which to choose? Read which question type to use when.
